My name is Kelly Heinen. I am a graduate of Buena Visa University in Storm Lake, Iowa. I have a BA in English with a focus on writing. While at BVU, I spent two years writing for the student newspaper The Tack. In those two years, I learned many aspects of journalism, and became a stronger writer as well.

I am currently studying broadcasting at Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge Iowa. I am responsible for the morning show on KICB 88.1 Monday, Wednesday, Friday from 0715-0800 and Tuesday, Thursday from 0715-0900 and have a Friday evening show called “Kicking and Screaming” from 1900-2100. I am being trained in all aspects of radio from on-air to production. I will graduate in May 2014 with an Associates degree in Broadcasting.

Currently, I am employed by Three Eagles Communications in Fort Dodge, Iowa. I am their afternoon production director. I am responsible for dubbing in commercials and shows, producing ads in terms of putting in appropriate background music and sound effects, and assigning ads to jocks. I am the back up news announcer for all seven radio stations, including one that reaches out of state. I also fill in occasionally to run the board for local high school basketball games.

I am also working at our local Hy-Vee grocery store as a bakery clerk. I am responsible for customer interaction, selling products, keeping the bakery clean and organized and packaging the products we produce. I have learned great customer service skills while working there and feel these can be applied to many jobs. I have learned to deal with customers who are upset, having a bad day, or just looking for someone to talk to. I enjoy the interactions I have with customers and my co-workers. Laughter is a part of our day, every day, and work is all the better for it.

Previously, I worked for Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge, Iowa. I was a telemetry technician on 2 North, where my duties mainly concerned monitoring patient’s heart rates and rhythms. I have also worked as a Medical Transcriptionist for Drs. Calisesi and Steck, with Calisesi Chiropractic Office. I worked on an on-call basis for this office. My duties included primarily transcribing dictated reports into the patient’s medical record.
